Tasburgh Neighbourhood Plan

A local referendum will be held on Thursday 2 May 2024 in order to determine whether residents within the neighbourhood area support the proposed Tasburgh Neighbourhood Plan.

Following the independent examination of the Neighbourhood Plan, South Norfolk Council has now issued a Decision Statement, stating that  the Plan should proceed to a referendum, subject to the specified modifications. The examiners’ report, the proposed Neighbourhood Plan and related information are available to view at South Norfolk Council’s website: https://www.southnorfolkandbroadland.gov.uk/emerging-neighbourhood-plans-south-norfolk/tasburgh-neighbourhood-plan

Background

Tasburgh Parish Council has started work on creating a community-led Neighbourhood Plan and it is important that the everyone in the village understands the process and has an opportunity to get involved.

It is possible that there could be many changes in or near our village.  The Government is looking at easing planning restrictions in its proposed new White Paper.  We are right next to the A140 corridor and the Hempnall crossroads roundabout will bring proposed new housing and Long Stratton ever closer to us. It is possible this will attract an increase is additional local development.  This could be a threat or an opportunity, only time will tell, but a Neighbourhood Plan will give us a village planning framework that you have all agreed, to guide future development.

It may contain a vision, aims, planning   policies, proposals for improving the area or providing new facilities, or allocation of key sites for specific kinds of development. The Plan cannot stop development happening but it can give Tasburgh a voice in saying where we all think it is acceptable to build, what kind of development we would like and what it should look like. It can also also deal with a wide range of social; economic and  environmental issues - such as housing, employment, heritage and transport.

Neighbourhood planning was introduced in the Localism Act 2011.

It is an important and powerful tool that gives communities statutory powers to shape how their communities develop.

WHAT is a Neighbourhood Plan?

In  very simple terms, a neighbourhood plan is:

  • A document that sets out planning policies for the neighbourhood area – planning policies are used to decide whether to approve planning applications

  • Written by the local community, the people who know and love the area, rather than the Local Planning Authority

  • A powerful tool to ensure the community gets the right types of development, in the right place
